Political expert and Ukrainian Armed Forces serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko explained that Russia is not a partner for China but a dependent state, raising questions about why Xi Jinping would need Putin at a meeting with Trump, Politeka reports.

He discussed the issue in his blog.

According to the expert, Russia wants to divide spheres of influence with China and the United States during the meeting in Shenzhen on November 18–19. However, this is no longer how the world works, so there is no need to worry: the meeting is unlikely to change much.

“It is unclear whether Xi Jinping will allow Russia to take part in the trilateral meeting. Xi wants China to be the sole global leader. Forget it — China is not interested in a bipolar world. It wants a unipolar world, and that is precisely the kind of policy it is pursuing. Of course, the West is pushing back, and America is saying, ‘No, stop, we are a major player.’ But why would Xi bring Russia into the picture if China wants to stand alone? Well, there is Trump. Perhaps a meeting with Trump could make sense in some way. But why bring Russia into it as well? For what purpose?” Oleksandr Musiienko explained.

According to him, China sees Russia as a subordinate rather than a partner. Beijing needs Russia for cheap raw materials, expertise in nuclear weapons, assistance with space exploration and its Mars program, but little else. Therefore, the expert believes it is possible that no trilateral meeting will take place and that Xi Jinping may instead meet Trump and Putin separately.

“Several weeks ago, Putin openly stated in one of his comments to Russian propaganda media that he was entirely satisfied with the global order and security architecture in Europe established after World War II. That system envisaged a division of spheres of influence and the Warsaw Pact countries. But who would allow that to happen? Are Europeans interested in such an arrangement? No,” Oleksandr Musiienko concluded.
