Political expert and military serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko commented on media reports that the Pentagon has halted weapons shipments to Ukraine and assessed what could potentially change the U.S. decision, according to Politeka.
He shared his views in his blog.
According to the expert, the decision was made a few weeks after Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth ordered a review of U.S. stockpiles. As Musiienko notes, these reserves have been significantly depleted due to years of arms deliveries to Ukraine to counter the Russian invasion, as well as nearly two years of active hostilities in the Middle East, where the U.S. has been fighting the Houthis in Yemen and defending Israel and its allies from Iran.
"These munitions may remain blocked until the review is complete. If it’s found that the resources are insufficient or needed for other regions, the freeze may last longer. We’re talking about dozens of Patriot missiles, 155mm artillery shells, over 100 Hellfire missiles, 250 high-precision GMLRS rockets (the ones used with HIMARS systems), dozens of Stinger anti-air missiles, AIM air-to-air missiles, and grenade launchers. The Pentagon has so far declined to comment. NBC News recalls that Ukraine has repeatedly urged the U.S. and European countries to provide additional air defense systems, especially in light of increased Russian strikes,” Musiienko explains.
According to the expert, Ukraine needs arms supplies to be unblocked as soon as possible, but the U.S. position remains unchanged for now. Meanwhile, he notes, a ceasefire appears to be emerging in the Middle East, as Trump announced that Israel has agreed to the terms necessary for a 60-day truce, during which the U.S. will work with all sides to end the war.
“In other words, these steps are indeed aimed at easing tensions in the Middle East. We hope this will work in our favor. First, we hope that Israel's defense can truly be guaranteed, as it is under attack from terrorist regimes and states. But I also hope this will help speed up arms supplies for us, and that we’ll be able to receive them,” Oleksandr Musiienko reflects.
