Political analyst Andriy Zolotaryov explained that so far, all our “new faces” have come to power with the same greedy intentions. However, this situation was once typical in many countries — we need to learn from their examples, reports Politeka.
He shared his thoughts on Ruslan Bortnyk’s channel.
According to the expert, since 1991, power in Ukraine has not been a means of implementing political programs and ideas, but rather a way to earn and multiply capital. He stresses that while slogans and international alliances change, the essence remains the same: we hope that new faces will break the system and everything will be different, but they come for the same reasons, merely pushing aside the previous ones.
“But there are plenty of examples where countries that started literally below zero managed to rise. Take Singapore, for instance. We often liked to quote Lee Kuan Yew: ‘To defeat corruption, you need to jail your friends.’ It’s easy to declare noble intentions, but it’s very hard to act on them.
Let me remind you that Lee Kuan Yew started at a time when Singapore, after the British left, was facing political and ethnic tensions, a conflict with Malaysia, and didn't even have drinking water — it had to be brought in by tanker.
Yet, Singapore succeeded,” — says Andriy Zolotaryov.
Another successful example, he notes, is South Korea, which in the beginning was just a backward South compared to the industrialized North Korea.
In South Korea, the expert explains, there was rampant corruption for a long time, political opponents were persecuted, the economy was deteriorating, and there was no industry.
Yet, the economic miracle happened over two decades during the rule of one of the dictators — Park Chung-hee.
So, he concludes, all is not lost for Ukraine. But the issue is that we must at least get to the point where theft occurs not from losses, but from profits — and for that, we need new people, which remains a serious challenge.
“Pay attention to how we’re currently being bombarded with ratings — sociology has turned from a tool for studying public opinion into a means of propaganda.
It’s like this artificial shaping: choose whoever you want, but your choice is still limited.
Unfortunately, our political ‘supermarket’ resembles more of a store with bare shelves,” — concludes Andriy Zolotaryov.
