Political analyst and serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko explained that Russia will always pose a threat to Ukraine; therefore, in the event of a ceasefire, Ukraine must not relax but continue to strengthen itself, Politeka reports.
He spoke about this on his blog.
According to the expert, in general, publications in the Western media discourse, citing representatives of the United States and Europe, suggest that a cessation of hostilities and a ceasefire could be achieved in the near future. That is, he emphasizes, this is presented as if, for the first time since 2022, the outlines of peace are becoming increasingly clear.
“On the other hand, already now there is information saying: stop. And who said we should relax? Will Russia disappear? No. Will the aggressive neo-imperial nature of Russia, which seeks expansion, disappear? The Russian state concept in its current form is not viable; it does not respond to the internal needs of its own citizens. It is a machine of repression, pressure, and external expansion. Expansion is presented as the meaning of the existence of today’s Russia,” Oleksandr Musiienko explains.
Thus, he concludes, support for Ukraine must not diminish. Zelenskyy has even said that sanctions on Russia should not be lifted until the territories are de-occupied, although this is unlikely to happen, as the West may seek a compromise. However, the expert notes, we see that the West is ready to provide security guarantees, funding, and weapons, but the lion’s share will remain Ukraine’s responsibility; the Armed Forces of Ukraine are the most effective pillar of support.
“The issue is that Russia must also understand that it will not be like before, when we said: give us sanctions, give us weapons. No—mechanisms will be activated immediately, potentially even involving the deployment of troops from Western countries, a Coalition of the Willing, who will be ready to help Ukraine and stand shoulder to shoulder. And this will be the difference that did not exist in 2014, when Russia started this war, and later during the full-scale invasion in 2022. This should be the signal to Putin. And the deployment of military missions in western Ukraine, which The New York Times writes about, should begin now so that Russia understands the seriousness of the situation,” Oleksandr Musiienko concludes.
