Political strategist Mykhailo Sheitelman explained that a country's leader should abide by the law and honor agreements, as Biden did, rather than throw them in the trash and do whatever he wants, as Trump does, Politeka reports.
He discussed this in his blog.
“So, what we have is Trump running wild and doing whatever he wants, while Biden was bound by obligations, treaties, Congress, campaign promises, the wishes of his party, and his fellow party members. So, who is better? What is better — a constrained Biden or a Trump who has had his straitjacket taken off?” Mykhailo Sheitelman remarked.
As the expert explains, the point is not that Biden was a good person or president, or that he pursued the right policies. Rather, under his leadership, the United States was governed the way any democratic country should be governed. That is precisely the kind of governance we are fighting for.
“It is a good thing that Biden was constrained. And look at the results: we received tens of billions of dollars, military aid — here are your shells, then here are your HIMARS, here are your F-16s, and here is a 10-year agreement based on everlasting love, friendship, and security, which Trump simply threw in the trash because he does whatever he wants. God forbid the next U.S. president behaves like Trump, a lawless leader. We do not need that. We need everything to be done according to the law and established procedures. Otherwise, Ukraine and the entire world depend on the mood of the U.S. president. But when everything is governed by law, we do not care who the U.S. president is,” Mykhailo Sheitelman argued.
After all, he noted, it makes no difference to us who the prime minister of Latvia is because the law is the same for everyone, and the Constitution is the same for everyone. No one is going to rewrite it, and no one there even imagines that someone might stage a revolution over losing an election.
According to the expert, Biden's approach to governance is a model to follow: the law is in place, and that is the end of the matter.
