USA President Donald Trump said his country has a closer relationship with one side in the talks to end the Russian-Ukrainian war, and a less close one with the other. However, there will come a time when the White House decides to abandon mediation, Trump said in an interview.

In an interview, Trump was asked whether the US was closer to reaching a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia after signing a mineral extraction agreement. In response, he said that he hoped so.

“I think we have a closer relationship with one side, and with the other side, perhaps, a less close one. But I would not like to specify with which one. But we have made a good deal for the American people and we can get rare earth elements,” the US leader said.

At the same time, he noted that there will come a time when he will withdraw from mediating peace talks.

“There will come a time when I can say that. And if I do, it will mean that maybe there is something that I cannot do. There is a tremendous hatred between these two people [President Zelensky and Putin]... I think we have a very good chance of putting an end to it,” Trump stated.

Earlier, State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce said that the United States would no longer mediate in the resolution of the armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine. From now on, the initiative should pass directly to Moscow and Kyiv.
