U.S. President Donald Trump expressed hope that Russia and Ukraine could reach a peace agreement to end the war as early as this week.
He wrote about this on his social network, Truth Social, noting that if the peace talks are successfully concluded, both countries will be able to "start big business with the United States, which is thriving and generating wealth."
His statement came amid increasingly active diplomatic signals from Washington regarding expectations of progress in peace negotiations. In particular, following consultations in Paris on April 17, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned that the United States may withdraw from the negotiations if no tangible results are achieved in the coming days. According to him, NATO allies have already been informed of this stance.
Subsequently, Trump himself confirmed this rhetoric, emphasizing that despite hopes for progress, the U.S. might "wash its hands" and exit the process if no agreement is reached.
At the same time, Vice President J.D. Vance expressed a more optimistic tone in the public sphere. During his visit to Rome, he stated that he remains hopeful about the prospects for peace between the conflicting parties.
Additionally, U.S. President's Special Representative for Ukraine Keith Kellogg announced that an American delegation will travel to London this week to participate in negotiations concerning a possible ceasefire in Ukraine.
