Gasoline price hike in Ukraine in May has not yet occurred, but this issue continues to worry local residents.
Gasoline price hike in Ukraine in May may occur in the near future, Politeka reports.
The cost of fuel in Ukraine, as usual, is very sensitive to fluctuations in the world oil market. Therefore, much depends on how events develop at the global level.
According to him, the price of Brent oil currently has the potential to rise to $70 per barrel again. If this happens, then a gasoline price hike in Ukraine in May is quite real. The likely increase may be approximately one hryvnia per liter, which will be noticeable for many motorists.
However, one should not expect sharp fluctuations in the coming days. The expert believes that for now the market is held at a stable level. On the one hand, there are no direct economic reasons for the jump. On the other hand, there is also no reason to lower it.
Gas station chains are in no hurry to lower the price per liter. The increase in the price of gasoline in Kharkiv in May is also being discussed in the context of political events. A possible temporary truce between Ukraine and Russia in the Black Sea could give an impetus to a decrease in the import price.
In this case, fuel could become cheaper by two or even three hryvnias. However, this is still only a hypothetical scenario, to which the market is very cautious.
