The rise in bread price in Ukraine in May will not come as a shock to buyers, but this increase will not be completely unnoticed.

The rise in bread price in Ukraine in May is primarily due to economic difficulties, Politeka reports.

According to economist Oleg Pendzin, the rise in bread price in Ukraine in May will still occur, but it will be quite moderate. We are talking about a monthly increase of one and a half to almost two percent. This is not critical, but in conditions of constant pressure on the wallet, even such changes will not go unnoticed.

The explanation is simple. Manufacturers who produce mass consumption products monitor costs quite carefully, since demand remains high, and people's purchasing power is low. In order to reduce the load on the main varieties, they often shift costs to other categories of goods, for example, premium bakery products or sweets.

The expert also notes that the increase in the price of bread in Ukraine in May is unlikely to exceed 2 percent. If we look back at previous years, similar dynamics have already been observed. There was a price increase, but it remained within reasonable limits. According to economists, this trend will continue this year. At least for the coming months.

Currently, in ATB supermarket chains, the cost of a loaf fluctuates between 21–33 hryvnias, depending on the brand, weight and recipe. For example, the classic one from Kulinychi or Agrobusiness is sold for 26–30 hryvnias for 600 grams. But grain, toast or yeast-free options may cost more.
