The Chinese Foreign Ministry said it supports peace talks in Ukraine and the proposed 30-day ceasefire.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jiang said his country's position on the "Ukrainian crisis" (the People's Republic of China calls Russia's war against our country) is clear and consistent.

"We believe that all efforts should be directed towards achieving peace," he said.

Lin Jiang stressed that China hopes that Russia and Ukraine can continue negotiations to reach a long-term and fair peace agreement that is acceptable to all parties.

"China is ready to cooperate with the international community and continue to play a constructive role in resolving the "crisis," the spokesman commented on US President Donald Trump's statement on his readiness to involve China in a peaceful resolution of the war.

On the night of May 11, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that he was ready to start direct talks with Ukraine on May 15 in Istanbul without a ceasefire or other preconditions. He made the statement after the proposal of Ukraine and the leaders of the "coalition of the willing" to start an unconditional ceasefire on May 12 for at least 30 days, which should be the beginning of negotiations. The proposal was supported by the United States, among others. Zelensky said that he would personally fly to Istanbul on May 15 for talks with Russia.
