International political scientist Maxim Yali explained that progress in the negotiations will only be possible after a personal meeting of the leaders of the US and Russia: either Trump will persuade Putin to peace, or he will impose crushing sanctions, Politeka reports.

"I am sure that Solovyov and Skabeeva are talking about how, once again, the brilliant Putin outplayed and humiliated personally the main enemy of Russia - the USA. And of course, they will also add about Zelensky. That is, for the domestic audience, Putin got his profit, and then he raises the stakes. We have seen all these interviews and questions from Trump, now he is forced to justify himself to voters. Moreover, there is a real opposition there, which will, of course, use this for its own purposes, unlike Russia. Therefore, of course, Trump is the loser here," - says Maxim Yali.
In his opinion, after the talks in Istanbul, Trump's entourage will explain well what happened and what needs to be done, that it is enough to let Putin enjoy life. It is not for nothing, the expert adds, that Lindsay Graham was in Turkey, proposing to introduce a 500% tariff. Regarding Ukraine, he notes, there are no questions here, we agreed to everything, and on the eve of the talks we very successfully signed an agreement on subsoil resources with the United States, so now all questions are only for Putin.
At the same time, the expert notes, it is necessary to understand Trump's personality, because even if neither Witkoff nor Rubio could achieve results from Russia, he personally will succeed, he is confident that you can look Putin in the eye and see there a desire for peace.
"He is still convinced that he personally will be able to reach agreements and a peace agreement. Therefore, until the meeting takes place, I am personally convinced that no one will be able to convince him that it is necessary to introduce these sanctions against Russian oil tomorrow, so to speak. And he will drag it out until the last moment. Another thing is that all these circumstances accelerate their possible meeting, it will happen in any case. Accordingly, the time for delay, which is Putin's main goal, is becoming less and less," explains Maxim Yali.
