Political expert and military officer Alexander Musyenko told what policy the new Pope Leo XIV will pursue and whether he will be able to help end the Russian-Ukrainian war, reports Politeka.

As the expert notes, the enthronement of the new Pope Leo XIV is an important event, and Ukraine was given a great honor, since the first foreign leader he met was President Zelensky. Also, he adds, the Pope met with the First Lady, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the President's team, they discussed the Russian-Ukrainian war, and it is possible that after Nicaea, Leo XIV will visit Ukraine.
"The anti-American rhetoric of the previous Pope Francis and the compromise Eastern policy towards Russia and China testified to the papal support for a certain neutrality towards them and a policy of confrontation with the West. But Russia and China used the Vatican as a basis for their aggressive policy. It is unlikely that the Vatican will continue this course," says Alexander Musyenko.
According to him, the rejection of the discredited Eastern policy towards Russia and China and the anti-American bias in the policy of the Vatican will give a chance to unite the new Pope with the West, this will be a significant step towards peace. As the expert explains, Leo XIV will focus more on values, he will say that it is necessary to support the rule of law, democracy and restrain such aggressive regimes as the Russian one.
"The presence of many leaders, royal families (ed. - at the enthronement of the new Pope) shows that the Catholic Church still has influence, especially in the Global South. And this is the majority of the population, including some of Russia's allies. Therefore, it is also important to go from the backyard to where Russia or China operated, it is also a search for support. Therefore, I hope that it will be so," concludes Alexander Musyenko.
