Political expert and serviceman Oleksandr Musiyenko explained that Russia may lose its strongest ally – China – if it begins negotiations with the US on business and geopolitics, Politeka reports.
He shared this in his blog.

As Reuters wrote, the expert noted, discussions are underway about involving the US in business in Russia. This was first mentioned at a meeting between Witkoff and Putin in Moscow, and later briefly at the Putin–Trump summit in Alaska. In particular, he pointed out, it was about the possible return of ExxonMobil to Russia’s oil and gas project “Sakhalin-1,” about Russia potentially purchasing American equipment for the “Arctic LNG-2” project, and about the US acquiring nuclear icebreakers in Russia.

“In other words, what I’ve been saying: economic cooperation and dialogue are ongoing – I mean dialogue about the restoration of investments. That’s a fact, because Putin desperately needs money, as the National Wealth Fund continues to be depleted, and it needs to be replenished with something since he keeps waging war. And how to replenish it? That’s what he’s now searching for,” Musiyenko explained.

In his view, the US should think about whom they are actually negotiating business with, since Putin, meanwhile, is preparing for the SCO summit in China, and Xi Jinping will keep Putin on a tight leash, ensuring he doesn’t slip away, keeping Russia at war so it continues to weaken. And overall, Musiyenko noted, although Putin is trying to balance, he will ultimately go with whoever offers him more.

“How much will China like that? Trump is already openly saying that cooperation with Russia could be established in order to contain China. China, by the way, for the first time in history actually congratulated Ukraine on Independence Day, congratulating a post-Soviet republic. President Zelensky also mentioned this. Perhaps China is already starting to look for balance, leaning on both Ukraine and the EU, realizing that there are risks that the US and Russia might begin moving closer together. That version is also possible,” Musiyenko reflected.
