Military expert Oleg Starikov has stated that while the U.S. is responding cautiously to all provocations, Russia is preparing for war on the Western front using tactical nuclear weapons, according to Politeka.

He shared these insights on his channel.

"At the moment, the White House is responding with restraint and avoiding risky steps. But such incidents (editor's note – Russian drones entering NATO countries) are likely to continue, and it will then be impossible to predict what decision might be made. Is Europe ready for a full-scale war on its territory without America? That’s a question. And is the Kremlin ready for war?" – Oleg Starikov noted.

On this topic, the expert recalls Putin’s appearance in military uniform at the Zapad-2025 exercises at the Mulino training ground, where it was demonstrated that he is in full control and that the military leadership is following his orders. In addition, Starikov mentions that during these exercises, Putin addressed foreign observers, walked around the weapon display stands, and reloaded a pistol. According to the expert, all of this signals that the military phase will continue, regardless of the West’s intentions.

"Moreover, Putin showcased his second army, whose mission is to wage war in the western direction. This army consists of conscripted soldiers – up to 150,000 drafted annually – and a mobilization reserve of up to 1.5 million," Starikov added.

The key feature of these exercises, the expert emphasizes, was the deployment of Iskander operational-tactical missile systems and simulated digital launches with nuclear warheads. This, he explains, means that there will be no war on the western front using conventional weapons — only tactical nuclear weapons will be employed.
