Political strategist Mikhail Sheitelman stated that the major gathering of American generals turned out to be a clown show, but they are indeed right in saying that today, war is also about PR and marketing, reports Politeka.
He shared this in his blog.
According to the expert, everyone was anticipating this historic meeting of generals and admirals in Virginia, where the new strategy of the Department of Defense was to be presented — and it was, but with a catch. First of all, he notes, Hegseth announced that the Pentagon’s new mission is to fight wars, prepare for war, and prepare for victory. Then he added that there would be no more men in skirts and no beards — basically, a farce.
"Why does this happen? Because what do Hegseth and Trump have in common? They are both TV hosts. They both think war is something on television. So — no skirts, and beards don’t look good on screen, so get rid of the beard. On the other hand, you get a cool shot of Hegseth standing in front of hundreds of seated generals and admirals. Look how many generals and admirals we have! Why else would he ask them to come? Couldn’t he have said it over the phone or sent a fax saying no more beards and no skirts? He needed an image. He needed a show. He and Trump. And Trump liked it," Mikhail Sheitelman explains.
Nevertheless, he points out, while the whole thing is laughable, one can agree with Trump and Hegseth on one point: marketing has become, strangely enough, a crucial part of modern warfare — something we've already seen during our own war. As the expert explains, if our political leadership hadn't “sold” our war to the West, we wouldn't have received all this weaponry and funding.
“Today, you can’t win a war without marketing. You can’t win a war without PR. This isn’t the ancient times where people just came and fought honorably with swords. Today, the informational side of war is enormous. But Hegseth, as a TV host, doesn’t know one important detail: if there are no real actions behind the scenes, no PR department can save you. Real actions must back it all up,” Mikhail Sheitelman concludes.
