International relations expert Maksym Yali explained that the U.S. and Russia are competitors in the energy market, which is why Ukrainian Armed Forces' strikes on Russian oil refineries benefit Trump—he will provide intelligence for this, Politeka reports.

He discussed this on his channel.

According to the expert, the information that the U.S. is helping the Ukrainian Armed Forces with intelligence for strikes on oil refineries didn’t accidentally appear in the Financial Times—it was a deliberate leak from the American side. Moreover, he notes, this is an open secret: even under Biden, Putin was already complaining that this is a war with the U.S., since Ukraine doesn’t have such intelligence capabilities. So this was another message from Trump, reminding everyone that support for Ukraine will continue.

“And this is where Ukraine’s interests align very well with those of the U.S., and Trump’s in particular. Why? Because right now, there’s a struggle for the European energy market, which is the largest market with real money,” Maksym Yali states.

He goes on to recall that during his first term, Trump already tried to push Russia out of the European energy market—he imposed sanctions against Nord Stream 2 and criticized Merkel. Overall, the expert says, in certain years the U.S. outpaced Russia in oil and gas production, meaning they are direct competitors, and Trump wants Europe to abandon Russian gas, oil, and oil products, which American producers can replace.

“I would remind you that oil companies are one of the key traditional sponsors of the Republican Party. Elections are coming up next November, and campaign funds will need to be replenished to retain control of both chambers of Congress. So all these factors align and are absolutely understandable. And for us, this is definitely a good thing,” Maksym Yali explains.
