Political strategist Mikhail Sheitelman stated that if Russia wants to provide anyone with security guarantees, it should dismantle its nuclear forces, move its troops far away, and back it all up with money, Politeka reports.
He shared this opinion in his blog.
As the expert notes, while Trump is finishing all the wars in the world, there’s one he won’t get to—because Lavrov said there would be no war between Russia and NATO, and that Russia is even ready to give corresponding security guarantees that no attack will take place. According to Sheitelman, one could, of course, laugh at and dismiss this statement from the Russian Foreign Minister—but one could also hold him to his word.
“You say you’re ready to provide security guarantees. Well, go ahead—guarantees must be tangible. Security guarantees aren’t words. We don’t believe your words. Not a single one. What kind of security guarantees can Russia give that it won’t attack NATO countries?” — comments Mikhail Sheitelman.
In his opinion, the Kremlin could, for example, deposit $1 trillion into an account, with the funds automatically transferred to the European Union for armament if Russia attacks a NATO country — now that would be a real security guarantee. Or, he continues, Russia could simply dismantle its nuclear forces and withdraw all its troops from the European part of the country — that would also count as a valid guarantee.
“Security guarantees aren’t scraps of paper, not the Budapest Memorandum. Security guarantees are facts — material facts on the ground, as Lavrov likes to say. That’s what would be called a real security guarantee. Go ahead. And you say you want to give security guarantees to Ukraine, as Dmitriev said? Then put up $3 trillion — that’s how much you owe us in reparations. Deposit that money in an account — that will be your security guarantee. What did you think? Words? A pile of talk is not a security guarantee — it’s just bla-bla-bla. We need guarantees,” — explains Mikhail Sheitelman.
