Political expert and serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko stated that this entire prolonged peace track has ultimately led to the U.S. once again taking a wait-and-see position and letting the sides continue fighting, Politeka reports.

He discussed this in his blog.

“The American president has, in fact, for now rejected the idea of transferring Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, although he said that his position might change in the future. In other words, Trump is leaving a fallback option — he’s not ruling out all possibilities and is saying that, if necessary, this topic could be revisited later,” Musiienko noted.

Furthermore, he continued, Trump said that he is not interested in the fate of Russia’s frozen assets, claiming that it’s Europe’s business — even though U.S. support on this issue would be very important for making decisions.

The expert also added that, according to Trump, Putin and Xi Jinping are experienced leaders who cannot be trifled with, and that the Russian-Ukrainian war could end within a few months, but sometimes the sides need to be allowed to keep fighting until the situation reaches the point where negotiations become necessary.

“What does this mean? It means that the U.S. is taking a wait-and-see position, waiting for both sides to become exhausted before talks can begin. In a certain sense, Trump is washing his hands of the situation and saying it’s Europe’s problem — let them keep fighting until they reach the point where negotiations are possible, since supposedly they’re not possible now. Moreover, he’s sending a signal that Ukraine might even have to negotiate with Russia directly, without mediation. That’s how this should be understood. The U.S. may wash its hands not only of support, but even of the role of mediator,” Oleksandr Musiienko explained.
