Political expert and serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko stated that the sharp intensification of the negotiation track indicates Russia’s fear and the United States’ desire to finally achieve a ceasefire, Politeka reports.
He spoke about this on his blog.
“Russia continues its energy terror, striking infrastructure facilities. Notably, this happened on the eve of Zelenskyy’s visit to Turkey, where meetings with Erdoğan and Vitcoff are scheduled. This fully reflects Russia’s current stance on its readiness for negotiations. There will be no Russians in Istanbul, it must be said, but the negotiation process continues, judging by publications in Western media. And the U.S. again plans to play an active mediating role in this process. Vitcoff is back in the game; he is communicating with the Russian side through Dmitriev,” Oleksandr Musiienko notes.
Dmitriev himself, he says, told American media that at the end of October he worked for three days in Florida and a 28-point peace plan was developed—something similar to the one for Gaza. Likely, the expert states, Vitcoff will present this plan to Zelenskyy in Turkey, followed by consultations and discussions. However, he emphasizes, all this shows that Russia does not want to burn bridges, that it fears U.S. pressure—especially considering that on November 21 oil sanctions take effect.
“The Americans will try to achieve a Christmas ceasefire, meaning around December 24–25. If it doesn’t work, then it will drag on to the next date—they’ll tie it to Easter, meaning already 2026. But the attempts will only intensify; the U.S. has begun a new round. Will it work out? So far, it is not working out, and there are no signs that it will. The war continues. But we’ll see. The situation is dynamic, there are various factors, and black swans cannot be ruled out,” Oleksandr Musiienko explains.
In addition, he says, the U.S. has sent a delegation of high-ranking military officials to Ukraine, headed by Army Secretary Driscoll. They will obviously discuss the military parameters of a ceasefire, and afterward they plan to speak with the Russian side. Thus, the expert concludes, we are now witnessing another stage in the intensification of the negotiation track.
