Military expert Oleg Starikov commented on the incident at Dublin Airport, where Zelensky’s plane arrived earlier than planned and narrowly missed four large unidentified UAVs, Politeka reports.
He spoke about this on his channel.
As the expert notes, firstly, all of this happened not in the center of Europe but far away in Ireland. Transmitting signals over such distances to control this type of aircraft is a major problem. Secondly, he continues, the launch platform was obviously an ocean vessel — and ships are tracked via GPS, so they are easy to locate; and the drones were large, meaning they have radar visibility and can be detected by air-defense systems.
“But the main point is this — it’s an airfield. Airfields in every country in the world are covered by air-defense systems. Air-defense controllers operate there, and they work not on the same frequency but in close coordination with civilian air-traffic controllers. That is, the military see what the civilians are doing, and civilians, apparently, should see what the military are doing. If the military detected such drones — they’re not birds, they’re metal — they should have relayed that information to civilian controllers,” Oleg Starikov explains.
Ireland, he notes, is not a NATO member, but one can recall that any “rattletrap” can freely enter the airspace of the Alliance’s eastern flank — meaning that even there there is no proper protection, let alone on the western flank. All this, the expert emphasizes, shows that the West is not ready for a war with Russia, the one they are preparing for in 2030. And after the situation with the drones in Ireland and Zelensky, he says, all commanders responsible for air defense should be dismissed, a military inspection should be conducted, and order must be restored.
“Even Dublin Airport itself was not prepared to implement the command that in Russia is called ‘Kover’ (‘Carpet’ alert). And who was guiding the airliners carrying protected persons? They failed to execute coordination procedures with the air-traffic services. The aircraft was being monitored. And why is it monitored? Because on board was the Commander-in-Chief of a country that is directly engaged in hostilities against NATO’s primary adversary,” Starikov concludes.
