Political strategist Mikhail Sheitelman assessed whether the 90% of resolved disagreements in the talks—mentioned by an unnamed U.S. official on Sky News—actually bring us closer to peace, Politeka reports.

He spoke about this on his blog.

Along the way, the expert recalls how two of his friends decided to chip in to buy a private jet, but it turned out that each of them could afford only one-third of the plane. They told this story and heard the response: “There’s a problem—two-thirds of a plane don’t fly.” That’s exactly what a 90% plan is like, he stresses: it’s no different from a 0% plan.

“Those 90% that have been agreed upon are essentially meaningless. You can agree on them or not—it doesn’t matter. The essence lies in the occupied territories, in what Russia started this war for. And on that essence, it seems to me, we’ve advanced by 0 centimeters,” Mikhail Sheitelman emphasizes.

In addition, the expert notes, we were unexpectedly informed that another round of talks between Ukraine and the United States is planned, involving working groups and military representatives who will be studying maps. But, he stresses, the delegations had already held two days of talks in Berlin, where the President of Ukraine was present. There can be no one more important than him in this situation; he has the greatest authority. So if the Americans wanted to learn something, they could have asked Zelensky then.

“And in Miami, as we know, the President of Ukraine will not be there. Again it will be Umerov, Hnatov—that is, people without authority. So why do they need to fly to Miami? That’s the question. Why fly to Miami? Why do we need an eighteenth round of talks in Miami if Zelensky won’t be there? It’s needed because Merz won’t be there either—because they need to try once again to pull off some dirty dealings without witnesses. They couldn’t manage it in Merz’s presence. ‘How could I sell my conscience with a clear conscience in front of him?’ these shameless comrades must have thought. With Merz there, they couldn’t offer any dirty schemes—Merz would definitely make it public; he is the Chancellor of Germany and has the right to do so. But here, under the cover of night at Witkoff’s club, they are once again planning to somehow entice our delegation with stuffed cabbage rolls,” Mikhail Sheitelman concludes.
