Political analyst and serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko explained why Trump did not mention Ukraine in his address to the nation and assessed whether a U.S. military operation against Venezuela would be beneficial for Ukraine, Politeka reports.
He spoke about this on his blog.
As the expert explains, during his address Trump focused on his achievements over 11 months in office, in particular on reducing drug trafficking, migration policy, and the economy, because the United States is now concentrating on domestic policy—especially since these very issues are causing his approval rating to fall. As for Venezuela, he says, the U.S. wants to regain rights to oil fields that the Maduro regime has effectively nationalized.
“A U.S. military campaign against Venezuela could lead to a shift of focus away from Ukraine. And Trump may deliberately consider an escalation with Venezuela to boost his own ratings, declare victory in the fight against drug trafficking, and protect American assets outside the United States. Agree, it’s a good story if presented correctly, as Trump knows how to do. Here, credit must be given—he knows how to run a media campaign,” Oleksandr Musiienko explains.
Thus, he warns, the topic of peace negotiations may move into the background, and the U.S. may distance itself, especially if there is no tangible progress with Russia and if it continues to be unwilling to make compromises. However, for now, the expert notes, the negotiation process is ongoing: the Russian delegation is expected to meet with Witkoff and Kushner in Miami this weekend.
“On the other hand, if the U.S. takes control of Venezuela’s main oil fields, this will strengthen American capabilities on the global oil market and affect prices. Yes, these are different grades of oil, yes, it’s somewhat different, but China—and not only China—is interested in Venezuelan oil, and the U.S. will be able to dictate certain conditions. This will lead to greater U.S. export opportunities on the global market and significantly undermine Russia’s capabilities. We’ll see how events unfold further. There are U.S. ships around Venezuela, U.S. carrier-based aviation, reconnaissance aircraft, and even the so-called ‘Doomsday Plane’ was airborne over the past day. So the situation is indeed escalating,” Oleksandr Musiienko concludes.
