Political expert and serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko commented on the second Russian “Oreshnik” strike on Ukraine and explained where the enemy was aiming and what effect it wanted to achieve, Politeka reports.
He spoke about this on his blog.
“An air-raid siren sounded, and an ‘Oreshnik’ was launched from the Kapustin Yar test range in Astrakhan Oblast. I would remind you that despite the enemy having deployed ‘Oreshnik’ systems in Belarus, it is extremely difficult for them to use them against Ukrainian territory purely for technical reasons, because the distance is quite short, and this is a missile designed for much longer ranges. If launched like that, it simply would not have time to properly target anything at such a short distance — it needs a longer flight. That’s why it was launched from Kapustin Yar. Explosions were heard in Lviv Oblast,” Oleksandr Musiienko says.
According to the expert, the likely target was one of the largest gas storage facilities in Ukraine. As he explains, unfortunately the Russians know very well what is located where in Ukraine, because much of it was built and supplied not only in Soviet times, but also during the period when Ukraine cooperated with Russia. And in general, the expert notes, Russia has always used gas pipelines and energy issues as a tool to try to corrupt Ukrainian elites.
“Most likely, the ‘Oreshnik’ was not equipped with a full combat warhead, but with so-called dummy payloads, once again similar to the strike on the city of Dnipro in November 2024. Explosions were heard in Lviv, and in Lviv Oblast as well. Sometimes people say they were heard even almost in neighboring regions,” Oleksandr Musiienko emphasizes.
In addition, the expert notes that the Russians claimed this strike was allegedly a response to an ‘attack’ on Putin’s residence. Although, he reminds, the Russians had threatened and shouted that the strike would be on the government quarter and government buildings — yet instead they struck with an “Oreshnik.”
