Political analyst and serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko explained that due to Russian strikes on the energy sector, it is time to think about moving the entire system underground and investing in nuclear power plants, Politeka reports.

According to the expert, Ukraine’s energy system has suffered quite serious damage as a result of Russian terrorist strikes, and its restoration will take time. He also believes that additional conclusions must be drawn regarding the construction of alternative routes for electricity delivery from Europe, since Ukraine is currently surviving only thanks to imports, as domestic generation is insufficient.
“How realistic is it to lay power lines, especially high-voltage ones of 750 kV and above, underground? We need to abandon these main power lines on large metal pylons that run across Ukraine. I think we need to move as much as possible underground, protect everything as much as possible, build sarcophagi over everything we can, and diversify the system,” Oleksandr Musiienko argues.
In addition, the expert notes that it is very good that partners are ready to help: they are supplying boiler houses, boilers, generators, and thermal power plants—everything that is keeping Ukraine’s energy sector afloat. Ukrainian energy workers, he states, are working around the clock to provide more electricity, but they physically cannot increase generation.
“How much we need the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant under these conditions. This is simply a must, which is why the issue is raised in negotiations, because without it there is no way. Without nuclear power plants it is very difficult; they need investment. They used to say that there was no need to invest in nuclear energy, but it turns out there is. It just needs to be done carefully, with safety measures, in places where it is possible, under supervision, together with Western partners, and, of course, with transparency in order to avoid embezzlement and corruption, which, unfortunately, can occur in projects of this scale,” Oleksandr Musiienko concludes.
