Political analyst and serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko assessed whether Putin would agree to halt strikes on energy facilities, as proposed by Ukraine and the United States, according to the Financial Times, Politeka reports.
He spoke about this on his blog.
“If the enemy sees that its strikes bring even the slightest effectiveness (and, unfortunately, there are consequences—they are negative for our energy sector), then why would it give this up during the winter period, when there is no pressure from the United States and the international community? Would Putin abandon this, knowing his misanthropic nature and the nature of this genocidal war against Ukraine? I don’t think he will stop. They will not stop,” Oleksandr Musiienko explains.
Likewise, the expert notes that the Russians are preparing offensive actions in the Zaporizhzhia direction, and therefore they will not stop—they will try in the coming weeks and months to move closer to Zaporizhzhia. In addition, he adds, the Russians may form a certain grouping on the left bank of the Kherson region in order to attempt to threaten Kherson directly.
Thus, the expert explains, Russia will try to pressure Ukraine by creating conditions in which we will have no other options but to make concessions. This, he states, is Russia’s logic: to force us into concessions through genocide.
“And don’t be naive. There will be no signs that the Kremlin is ready for peace, even if they agree to it. If a ceasefire is to be recorded условно at 12:00 a.m. on February 1, then until 11:59 p.m. on January 31 Russia will conduct offensive actions, will strike Ukrainian civilian facilities, will do everything. If they cannot take it by military means, they will simply destroy it, annihilate it, and continue to create unbearable living conditions for people,” Oleksandr Musiienko concludes.
