Political strategist Mykhailo Sheitelman stated that the EU has finally reached a ban on supplies of Russian gas: old contracts are coming to an end, and new ones, apparently, will never be signed, Politeka reports.
He spoke about this on his blog.
“The European Union has decided to strike with new sanctions. Well, how new are they? Long-forgotten old ones, but at least it has decided to introduce them decisively and irrevocably. Specifically, the Council of the European Union has approved a complete ban on the supply of any types of gas from the Russian Federation. So what do we see? From the beginning of 2027, the supply of liquefied gas will be banned,” Mykhailo Sheitelman emphasizes.
As the expert explains, it may seem like a long time away, but it is not—11 months—and that means new contracts can hardly be concluded anymore. Starting today, he explains, the EU cannot ban supplies of Russian liquefied gas because there are existing contracts and penalties would begin for European companies, but from January 1, 2027, there will be a total ban on these supplies.
“This is very important for many reasons. When the war ends, nothing will be lifted in one day. It will require unanimous votes to remove anything. It is important for us that Russia remains in this isolation; it is important that not a single drop of Russian gas ever again ends up in Europe. We need Russia to become poorer and destitute. That is our task. Only a poor Russia on the edge of the Oikoumene is a salvation for the civilized world—so that they focus not on war and external aggression, but on hunting mammoths. This is our goal, ultimately. There is no other way to stop aggression,” Mykhailo Sheitelman explains.
As for the ban on Russian pipeline gas, the expert adds, it will only take effect from September 30, 2027, because there are existing contracts, a transition period, and so on. But the main point, he emphasizes, is that new contracts can no longer be signed.
