Political expert and serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko explained why the proposal for the EU to completely abandon Russian oil by 2027 disappeared from the European Commission’s plan, Politeka reports.
He spoke about this in his blog.
“The announcement of this initiative, previously scheduled for April 15, has been postponed indefinitely. According to updated presentation documents, this plan is not on the European Commission’s agenda at least until the end of May,” Oleksandr Musiienko notes.
That is, he emphasizes, just one or two weeks of rising gasoline and diesel prices passed, and Europeans immediately wanted to turn back to Russia. In addition, the expert says, the United States has distanced itself from a €90 billion loan to Ukraine, claiming it has no influence, and that it is sympathetic to Orbán—but it is unclear why they do not want to put pressure on Hungary, and now Europeans themselves are once again interested in Russian oil.
“No, this will not happen simply because Russia will not be able to fulfill its obligations. So look for other options, negotiate with Iran. It is possible to reach agreements with Iran. Iran is offering a formula: pay extra, and ships will sail. If you say Trump is wrong—then negotiate with Iran to allow Qatari vessels carrying gas and oil to Europe to pass. That’s how I see it. Iran is demonstrating that this is currently possible, so let’s act on it,” Oleksandr Musiienko explains.
Moreover, the expert reminds that even under wartime conditions, the grain corridor continues to operate despite Russian attacks, so a solution can be found without relying on Russian oil.
