Political strategist Mikhail Sheitelman explained that Trump is acting chaotically—alternately threatening Iran and then speaking about success in negotiations—while a prolonged war would harm him more than the ayatollah regime, reports Politeka.
He spoke about this on his blog.
“Trump has encountered enormous and completely unexpected problems. The global oil market is already at $115 per barrel. I was asked today: if Iran’s oil exports were completely banned, how long would the ayatollahs last? In any case, longer than Trump. Scott Bessent said that, on the contrary, they allowed Iran to export oil and everything would be fine. But if it’s banned, there will be too little oil in the world and the price will be too high. So who won’t last? The ayatollahs—or Trump at such oil prices? The ayatollahs will at least have oil, while it’s unclear what will happen to Trump’s approval rating,” Sheitelman argues.
Recently, he notes, Trump has made many different statements, but overall the situation looks absurd. First, the expert says, Trump declared that he wanted to seize Iranian oil and take control of the export hub on Khark Island, claiming Iran has no defenses and that the Pentagon had already ordered the deployment of 10,000 troops. Then, he continues, the same Trump said that the United States is engaged in serious negotiations with Iran to stop the military operation, that there is significant progress, and that a deal will be reached.
After that, the expert adds, Trump threatened to destroy all of Iran’s power plants, oil wells, Khark Island, and desalination facilities in retaliation for numerous American soldiers allegedly killed over 47 years. This is despite the fact, he emphasizes, that Iran has not been at war with the United States and has not killed American soldiers.
“Notice what he is threatening—desalination facilities. If you deprive Iran’s population of drinking water, first, they will die of thirst; second, diseases will spread: diphtheria, dysentery. There will be dirty water, people will start dying. There are vast desert territories there. And Trump wants to destroy all power plants—he is essentially saying: ‘I will commit numerous war crimes. I will destroy desalination facilities, all power plants.’ By the way, Iran already has electricity shortages now. It’s a strange story, isn’t it? It looks like hysteria,” Sheitelman concludes.
