Political expert and military officer Oleksandr Musienko said that Putin’s ceasefire on May 9 is an attempt to nullify all the West’s peacemaking efforts and present himself as a true peacemaker, Politeka reports.

He said this in his blog.

According to the expert, President Zelensky responded absolutely correctly to Putin’s initiative for a ceasefire on May 9, stating that this is another manipulation, that there is no need to wait for a parade in Moscow to establish a ceasefire, and that the killings must stop not for a few days, but for at least 30 and without any conditions.

“But why did Putin decide to introduce this ceasefire regime? This could be a demonstration of Russia’s alleged peacemaking efforts to create the illusion of being in the negotiation process. In addition, Putin seeks to dictate the agenda and show that the US and Ukrainian ceasefire initiatives have no meaning. He wants to nullify this and say: “It all doesn’t matter, in fact, the only “peacemaker” is me,” explains Oleksandr Musienko.

In addition, he notes, we see that Russia continues to put forward conditions for the continuation of the negotiation process and the ceasefire, Putin does this deliberately so that there are no agreements and deals. In addition, the expert adds, we are already skeptical of the ceasefire, because we have already had a negative experience, starting in 2014, when Russia broke its own promises.

“The White House also commented on this ceasefire. White House spokeswoman Caroline Levitt noted that Trump is generally becoming more and more disappointed in the leaders of both countries, he wants to achieve a permanent ceasefire. We are fixing these structures. And doesn’t Ukraine want to achieve this? "Trump should be disappointed not in Zelensky, but in Putin, who actually somewhat changed or betrayed the US president's idea of himself," concludes Oleksandr Musienko.
