Military expert Oleh Starikov explained that as long as Russians do not restore order internally, Ukrainian drones will continue to penetrate Russia’s air defense. The strikes are indeed spectacular, but their effectiveness still needs to be calculated, reports Politeka.
He said this on his channel.
“There is effect, and there is effectiveness. In modern wars, in transitional wars, the effect — that is, the informational component — plays exactly the same role as the military component. That is certain, because war is not only fought on the battlefield, not only in technology, but also for minds, and most importantly — for the image. Yes, it looks impressive. But the effectiveness of such strikes can only be assessed when the volume of hydrocarbon exports in the Russian Federation and the amount of money received are calculated,” Oleh Starikov explains.
In Russia, the expert notes, power is structured in a strict vertical system, but it turns out there is no single air defense command center — only regional ones, and they poorly share information with each other. In other words, they see drones flying into a neighboring region but do not inform it, thinking they should deal with it themselves.
“On the one hand, they built an autocracy, an authoritarian vertically integrated state where everything is reported to the supreme commander-in-chief, their president is the main authority and so on; on the other hand, what happens on the ground is not reported or communicated,” Oleh Starikov states.
According to the expert, the level of truthful reporting to the highest levels of power in Russia is very low; they constantly report drone debris even when there were actual hits. He says that as long as Russians have not sorted things out internally and have not begun to properly organize their air defense, Ukraine has a window of opportunity.
