Political strategist Mikhail Sheitelman said that Russians have always tried to appropriate Ukraine’s history, and now they are striking the cultural symbols of antiquity of the Ukrainian state, Politeka reports.

He spoke about this in his blog.

“Russian drones arrived at the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra and hit the main church. The fire was extinguished, and you know, Zelensky immediately came there. I paused for a second and thought about it. Zelensky arrives at the site of a Russian drone strike immediately after the fire has been put out. Can you imagine Putin in such a situation? He has never once come to any strike site. He talks about the tragedy in Starobilsk. Did he even manage to get there? Well, fine, that’s Ukraine, it’s understandable he can’t reach it. But in Russia, at least one oil refinery? He was at the St. Petersburg Economic Forum. But why didn’t he stop by Kronstadt, where his warship burned? Scary,” Mikhail Sheitelman comments.

He also emphasizes that Zelensky arrived at the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra when debris from drones was still lying there after the fire was extinguished, and we know that Russians deliberately mine their UAVs. So, the expert states, you may support Zelensky or not, but this cannot be denied—he is at the strike site, while Putin sits in a bunker.

According to him, with this attack the Russians wanted to destroy the main symbol of Kyiv’s antiquity; this is already some kind of biblical story, a biblical dispute over primacy. Russia considers itself the source of “all Rus’,” but the Ukrainian people respond: “No.” Therefore, the expert concludes, after the attack on the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, this war is becoming increasingly “holy.”

“They showed the remains of that same drone that hit—‘Geran-2.’ It is essentially an Iranian ‘Shahed,’ but the Iranians taught the clumsy Russians how to assemble it somehow. So it was designed by great Iranian engineers and assembled in Tatarstan. So, do you understand how many Christian countries are involved? From Russia’s point of view, is this not a holy war? We understand that Russia is a Muslim country. Unfortunately, Russia is waging jihad against Ukraine,” Mikhail Sheitelman explains.
