The leader of the public movement “Native Country,” Mykola Tomenko, explained that the goal of the G7 summit is to bring Trump back to supporting Ukraine and countering Russia, but the U.S. president continues to use misleading rhetoric, according to Politeka.
He spoke about this on his channel.
“The United States for a certain period moved away from a conditionally allied position. There were agreements that we theoretically know about — the so-called ‘spirit of Anchorage,’ then there was Iran, there were other issues. There was an official statement that Ukraine is not a U.S. priority, that they should sort it out themselves. In effect, this (ed. — the G7 summit) is the return of the United States to the family of civilized nations,” explains Mykola Tomenko.
According to the expert, the G7 summit is not about breakthrough decisions, but rather about European leaders trying to convince Trump to return to a common sanctions policy and not extend exemptions from U.S. sanctions on Russian oil. In other words, he notes, the summit is about restoring a relatively old format of cooperation and bringing the U.S. back into the Ukrainian agenda.
“Unfortunately, the rhetoric of the U.S. president remains unchanged: they do not want to end the war, there should be some middle ground… In Trump’s rhetoric, there is still no aggressor, no victim, no right or wrong side; only the idea that the war somehow needs to be ended remains. Do you understand? Unfortunately, in my opinion, such rhetoric is not only cynical and anti-civilizational, it is also misguided,” Mykola Tomenko states.
In addition, the expert adds, recent events have shown that after Trump’s phone calls with Putin, Russia again and again carries out massive bombardments, and this time even cultural sites in Kyiv were targeted.
