Political expert and serviceman Oleksandr Musiienko spoke about whether there is a risk that the upcoming Zapad-2025 military exercises involving Belarusian and Russian forces on Belarusian territory could turn into a new offensive against Ukraine, Politeka reports.
He shared this in his blog.
According to the expert, this situation is constantly under the scrutiny of Ukraine’s military and political leadership, as well as its intelligence services, since Ukraine is actively assessing such risks. It is clear, he states, that any military activity near Ukraine’s borders is perceived as a potential sign of aggression — but Ukraine has been preparing all along.
“Since 2022, a number of very serious measures have been taken to reinforce our border with Belarus. This includes the presence of our military forces, mined territory, destroyed bridges, and blocked roads. Everything has been fortified seriously enough that, even if the Russian command theoretically had such a plan, it would not succeed in any way,” Musiienko explains.
It is clear, the expert continues, that the Zapad-2025 exercises are meant to exert pressure on Ukraine. However, this is also a serious threat to the Baltic states and Poland, so they genuinely need to bolster their security — particularly by learning from Ukraine’s experience.
“Ukraine is ready to share its experience. This has been happening constantly in order to provide our partners — the Baltic states and Poland — with the knowledge gained by our military in countering the Russian invasion, including the incursion from Belarusian territory in 2022,” Musiienko concludes.
